visual artist and community art facilitator
Marie considers herself extremely fortunate to be born with a love, passion and appreciation for colour, texture and all things art and craft.
It started when she was very young, colouring in for hours. But it wasn't until 2010 that she discovered her painting niche. Marie always knew she could paint. Not the realistic landscape or portrait kind of painting. That was way too conformist for her.
Ken Done was her inspiration in the 80's. With his abstract splashes of colour, bright and free. She wanted to express her inner painter too, in a unique way, with vibrancy, joy and most importantly, No Rules!
Angelica
The turning point came at a weekend retreat, when Marie picked up a sea sponge and began creating abstract, impressionistic marks. The exhilaration she felt was unlike anything else, and from that moment, her No Paintbrushes style was born. Her breakthrough works, Angelica and Central Windstorm, broke a decades-long painting drought and ignited her creative fire for painting. Since then, she has embraced upcycled and natural tools. From plastic lids, cardboard rolls, to leaves, gumnuts, and feathers, as a playful, eco-friendly way to make art. Fine art prints of Angelica are available.
Central Windstorm
Central Windstorm with its fiery red sky and striking blue currents, captures the raw, elemental power of central Australia. The energy of wind and storm moves across the canvas, while the abstract forms at the base suggest figures walking the land. Echoes of ancient footsteps in a timeless landscape.
With its strong, almost Aboriginal-inspired rhythm, Central Windstorm honours both nature’s force and the spirit of country.
It just goes to show that if you have an inner knowing about something and you hold the faith, it will happen! It took over 20 years for Marie.
For Marie, painting is more than colour on a canvas. It’s a childlike sense of freedom, joy, and self-expression. Each layer and mark adds to the story, creating depth and interest in every finished piece.
Community Art faciliator
Beyond the studio, I’ve shared my passion for art and craft as a creative workshop facilitator for many years. Including programs for the Dardanup Shire, South West Women’s Health and Information Centre, and the City of Busselton Summer School. One of my most rewarding experiences was teaching a non-verbal, wheelchair-bound young man to paint using sea sponges. Proof that creativity truly knows no limits.
To complement my hands-on experience, I completed a Diploma in Creative Arts and Health, a journey that pushed me outside my comfort zone and confirmed what I had always known: art has the power to uplift, heal, and connect us.
Today, through my art and workshops, I share this philosophy with others. Helping people discover the joy of creativity, the beauty of imperfection, and the freedom of expression without rules or mistakes.
